Almost always, success is multifactorial and can often depend on a bit of luck too, you should never miss out. However, the path to success begins with ourselves; this is how Alessandro Asaro, our Country Manager Italy, defines success. In this interview, he allows us to meet him and talk about his new professional challenge at Ad Maiorem.
Alessandro, how do you define yourself?
I can define myself as a person with a good character, patient and who does not give up easily. Furthermore, my curiosity leads me to the continuous search for new challenges, even in different sectors. In fact, in the past I have carried out different activities, going from risk management consulting for large corporations to strategic advice for innovative new companies. Since October 2019, I have been Ad Maiorem Country Manager Italy, turning my deep passion for technology into all its fields of application.
Could you give me a definition of what you mean by success? How should you look for it?
Almost always, success is multifactorial and can often depend on a bit of luck too, you should never miss out. However, the path to success begins with ourselves. The key is to get to know yourself better and become aware of your potential. The relationship between self-esteem and objectives is very important: by improving self-esteem, the probability of achieving goals is improved, and vice versa.
If you had to think about the figure that most inspired you? Who would it be and why?
There are many people who inspire me, even in everyday life. If I have to mention one, I think of Ulysses and a Song in Dante's Divine Comedy: "You have not been formed to live as brutes, but to follow virtue and knowledge." Ulysses encourages his companions to sail to other seas, going beyond the Pillars of Hercules, explaining that the nature of man is to pursue knowledge. I try to apply this concept also in my work, because you never stop learning.
How do you see yourself in the next five years?
I hope to play an increasingly important role in Ad Maiorem's growth, especially trusting my team, each professional and the strengths of our company.
How do you understand happiness?
It is often said that "Happiness is in the little things." It's probably a cliche, I know. I have a character that leads me to appreciate every little thing, trying not to underestimate what I experience in daily life.
What does the challenge of being Ad Maiorem's country manager in Italy mean to you?
Country Manager's role is becoming increasingly important for companies to accelerate their internationalization process. This is surely a great challenge and I am proud to fill this position. The development of business in Italy is one of the key points in Ad Maiorem's growth strategies, and this gives me a greater sense of responsibility.
How do you see the technology market in Italy?
Italy has always played a very important role in the global development of technology. The growth of the private sector has led to an increase in R&D investments in recent years. However, in Italy, the ratio of investment in R&D to GDP is lower than the European average. Therefore, Italy will have to focus even more on innovation to stay aligned with the ongoing technological transformation.
What characteristics define the technology professional in Italy?
In my opinion, a professional in this sector should possess not only high technical skills, but also valid soft skills to be able to interact with clients and collaborate with colleagues to make the work environment pleasant and stimulating.
What are the news of Ad Maiorem Italia for this year? Tell us your expectations.
Ad Maiorem has entered the Italian market, a highly competitive market based on strong relationships that already exist between the various actors active in technological innovation. Barriers to entry represent an important element of this challenge. In 2020, the activities will be different: on the one hand, we will strengthen the existing relationships with Italian companies, followed by the Spanish headquarters, on the other, we will further develop the Italian sales network. I am sure that our international network of professionals, the business model and the rapid response to changes in the needs of market players, represent a competitive advantage that will lead Ad Maiorem to achieve its objectives for 2020.
If you had to complete this interview, what question would you ask yourself?
This is a trick question !, hahaha! … It is not easy to ask yourself a question. I wonder: What is the best of this work? The answer? It is certainly a dynamic job, each day is different from the other, and it is a job that leads me to meet many professionals, highly experienced people, aware of being able to contribute something, learn more and more.
